You Get What You Pay For

Maximising your value with Dobson’s

Remember the old saying “you get what you pay for”? Consumers today often focus on getting the cheapest price. But what happened to value?

Getting the most bang for your buck can be determined by quantity, but also quality. Dobson’s provides the best value for its clients and has some things to keep in mind before your next purchase.

Here are some of Dobson’s tips for maximising your budget:

One or two colours

Often overlooked, using one or two colours can be used effectively to communicate a message or portray your brand.

Most cost effective on stationery items such as envelopes and letterhead, as well as flyers.

Stick to CMYK

CMYK, as opposed to spot or PMS colours, is great for both long and short run items. The standard colour palette means that you save money on washing up the printer.

Most cost effective for all digital work (as digital is almost only CMYK) and posters, brochures, point of sale work.

Standard stocks and sizes

Standard stocks can often make a difference. Instead of going for a watermarked stock, update your design to reflect the image you want to portray.

At Dobson’s we encourage the use of environmentally friendly stocks. The price difference for these stocks is decreasing but some environmental stocks are more expensive than others so talk to your Account Manager.

Standard sizes save you money on di-cutting, trimming and using larger sheet sizes. They also reduce wastage which is good for the environment!

One special feature

Foil stamping, embossing and spot UV are all fantastic ways to put a special touch on your printing. Avoid using all or too much of them as they focus a person’s eye on the main message. Too much and your audience won’t know where to look!

Most cost effective special feature is spot UV on a small area. And doesn’t it look great!

Buy more

Buying a higher quantity make the price per unit fall because of the set up costs involved in printing. Try to forecast how much of the product you will use before updating the design and order a larger quantity. Buying more is much better than running out and reprinting a small amount.

Talk to us!

Our experienced account managers will help navigate you through your options and make sure the finished product is what you had in mind- or better!

It is difficult, unless you are an industry expert, to determine quality before you test the product. Price and quantity are far more straightforward. But overlooking quality can lead to a product that is lacklustre or less effective.

Ask yourself, what look and feel are you trying to achieve? What will appeal most to your audience? And then, what can you afford.

It might be cliché but let us leave you with another old saying that Dobson’s believes

“If you’re going to do it, do it right!”
