Copy tips for great marketing

Communicating to your existing and potential customers through marketing is important. It reinforces what you have communicated verbally and gives more in depth information. Having printed information creates a sense of validity to your company and the message you portray. Design gets initial attention but your copy is what gets your audience to act.

Here are a few tips on what to consider when writing your next marketing piece:

  1. Your audience.

In order to communicate effectively the first thing you should consider is this- who am I communicating with? Thinking about your audience and how they would react to different styles of writing will help you make an informed decision before you start.

Is there a place for print?

Technology is moving at a rapid pace. With the launch of the new iPad you could be forgiven for thinking that the future lies with the world of Facebook, emails and gadgets. Although these things make up a great portion of our world today- we would certainly struggle without email and clearly embrace online mediums such as this blog!- many marketing opportunities exist outside the online world. Promoting your business through print and marketing can gain amazing results.

Paper is part of business everyday (for proof visit www.papereveryday.com.au) in one way or another. Whether it be handing out business cards, providing receipts or point of sale displays in shopping centres, paper is here to stay. We are constantly bombarded by online media and as such it is more difficult to capture the attention of your market online.

Exhibitions and Trade Shows

At every exhibition or trade fair there is one or two stand out exhibitors. You know the ones- with their brand everywhere, exhibition stands, lighting, professional brochures and outgoing salespeople. They seem to have invested quite a lot in order to make an impression. Or have they?

Exhibition stands, including lights, pull up banners and brochure stands come for a lot less than you might think. Dobson’s has exhibition packages available to make an impact with the highest level of quality. When exhibitors pay up to several thousand dollars to be in an exhibition or trade fair, you might as well maximise the opportunity!

What’s the difference?

Think about your printer at home. It has four ink cartridges that run across the page to form colours. This is the same process in digital printing. All colours are made up tiny dots of cyan, magenta, yellow and black (CMYK). Digital printing is a fairly simple process which has improved drastically with new technologies.

The offset printing process is far more complex and as a result generally produces better quality and more exact colour management.

Miconceptions of Printing and the Environment

Reducing CO2 is a priority for governments, businesses and individuals.

However, there is one thing that shouldn't be recycled and that is incorrect information.

Current research gives us some interesting facts to consider when making informed print and communication decisions.

PRINT vs ELECTRONIC

Electronic media does not necessarily leave a smaller environmental footprint than print. The Stern Review is a 700-page document written for the British government that discusses the effect of climate change on the world economy. Look at the difference in the amount of CO2 generated between reading the Review as a printed book, or via computer, CD or DVD.
